Y LADIES WHO

Y unveil 'Ladies Who', the third offering from their fast approaching debut EP. 'Ladies Who' follows 'Why' and 'Hate', a rowdy yet rounded introduction to the London band's genre-defying sound. The new track is a playful yet provocative commentary on the absurdity of media exploitation, which places Sophie Coppin (vocals/synth) at the forefront to chronicle the story of a female killer. With a bold and irreverent tone, Coppin's fanciful narration is set against a disgruntled, wobbly pop melody which flirts with a chaotic cabaret atmosphere. The sooty tinge of scuzzy riffage and acidic saxophone enforces an off-kilter rock feel, placing emphasis on the darker themes within the lyricism to create a thrilling dissonance. Channeling the whimsical and unsettling components of a media circus, 'Ladies Who' poses a core question: "Ladies who? - what would it take for you to listen?" Condensing the nature of a grotesque spectacle into just a few minutes, Y manage to disguise serious commentary as a wicked romp. Y's debut EP Y arrives this Friday, April 4th, via SO Recordings & Hideous Mink Records. -Kayla Sandiford
